Immediate Action Alert!

Dear NAND Members,

We need your assistance today! We are asking that you send an email to Senator Lamar Alexander’s key staff member regarding the National Diabetes Clinical Care Commission Act.  The letter we are asking you to send can be found below or by clicking this linkThis is a time sensitive issue, so please take action today!

Please send the following email message to:
Dear Senator Alexander,
As a constituent and a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics I urge you to support and pass the National Diabetes Clinical Care Commission Act (S. 539).  The National Diabetes Clinical Care Commission Act (S. 539) will address the enormous economic and human toll caused by diabetes and the complications of the disease.  The estimated total cost of diabetes has increased nearly 50% in five years, totaling $322 billion annually, according to new research published in the December 2014 issue of Diabetes Care.  The research also reveals that between 2007 and 2012, the cost of prediabetes increased 74% and the cost of undiagnosed diabetes increased by 82%.  The report underscores the need for new approaches to diabetes and prediabetes to reduce the burden of the disease and the urgent need to take action now.  For more information on the newly published research, please click here.
There are 24 co-sponsors of S. 539 who believe that a Commission to address diabetes and the complications of the disease is warranted given the magnitude of the diabetes epidemic.  Passage of the National Diabetes Clinical Care Commission Actwill be an important victory for individuals with diabetes and the healthcare professionals who treat them.  The Tennessee Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics includes 1463 dietitians who see the need for this legislation now in our state.
I urge you to take action now and pass the National Diabetes Clinical Care Commission Act (S. 539).

S.539/H.R.1074 National Diabetes Clinical Care Commission Act

The Academy needs all members to support the National Diabetes Clinical Care Commission Act (S.539/H.R. 1074).  These bills solve the problem of dispersed, uncoordinated federal entities working on diabetes issues and establishes a commission to make recommendations for better coordination to leverage federal programs for people with diabetes and pre-diabetes.  The commission, which will include clinical dietitians and other expert practitioners, would also determine how the government could support clinicians in providing high quality care to people with diabetes.

Please ask your Senator and Representative to support the National Diabetes Clinical Care Commission Act (S.539/H.R. 1074).

Take two minutes and send a note to your members of Congress.  Take Action Today!

If you are not a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, please still reach out to your legislator regarding this important issue.  To find your legislators, you can visit:
