Top reasons to apply for an individual NPI:

1) To get reimbursed for nutrition services. RD providers who are submitting claims for covered services under Medicare Part B must obtain an NPI number before any reimbursement can occur.

2) Mandated under HIPAA: According to the Privacy Act (HIPAA), health care professionals who submit claims to Medicare, Medicaid, and other private sector third party payers must use an NPI on paper and electronic claims.
