Meharry Medical College and Glencliff High School are in need of a registered dietitian!

On November 16, 2017, Glencliff culinary students will visit the Meharry cafeteria and interface with their contracted food vendor, Metz. They will tour the kitchen, learn about food preparation, and attend a session facilitated by a registered dietitian. The students will rotate through in groups of eight, providing the dietitian with three, 30-minute sessions to share about the career field.  The layout of the day is as follows:

10:00am – Session I
10:30am – Session II
11:00am – Session III
11:30am – Lunch
12:00pm – Departure

The registered dietitian will talk to students about the role of dietitians in a hospital setting. While a clinical dietitian would be desirable, anyone willing and comfortable with this responsibility is certainly welcome.  In addition to sharing with students about the role of a registered dietitian, an interactive activity should also be included.

What: Women’s Heart Alliance Screening Event

Where: First Tennessee Park – 19 Junior Gilliam Way, Nashville, TN 37219

When: Wednesday, September 20th, 2017 from 11:00am – 2:00pm

Additional Information: This event is held for Metro-Nashville Employees. It is a “come and go” event in which different departments within Metro will pass through at designated times, resulting in a steady flow of participants throughout the event. There will be fun, heart healthy activities, health screenings and exercise demos. They are looking for a few RD’s to be available with educational information and to provide basic nutrition counseling if needed. They have a team of nurses who will be doing screens: blood pressure, weight, labs, etc. The event will have tents, tables, chairs for protection from the elements.

Volunteer Opportunity–Fresh Savings Program at Nashville Farmer’s Market

On Saturday May 20th, NAND is partnering with the Nashville Farmers Market and AARP Foundation to support the Fresh Savings Program at Nashville Farmer’s Market. Please join us!  Fresh Savings helps people who shop with SNAP/EBT benefits stretch their dollars. When someone spends up to $20 on SNAP-eligible food at the market, they can receive up to $20 more to spend on fresh fruits and vegetables. NAND volunteers will help guide shoppers on how to spend their tokens, how to pick out different fruits/vegetables, provide suggestions on how to use the produce, and show them the best way to maximize their dollar.
